Take Action!

At New Jersey Airports, Airlines like United abuse and humiliate paying customers, take advantage of taxpayers and keep subcontracted workers in poverty. Passengers are paying more for less, workers struggle on poverty wages, and New Jersey taxpayers are subsidizing United’s profits.

The abuse must stop. It’s time for United and the rest of the airlines that operate at New Jersey airports to utilize contractors that pay workers a living wage and provide meaningful benefits.

You’ve seen what happens when airlines put profits first—passengers are mistreated, worker turnover is high and safety is jeopardized. And the subcontracted baggage handlers, wheel chair attendants, sky caps and cabin cleaners who clean United planes at Newark Airport are making so little money that a significant number of them are forced to rely on food stamps and other government programs in order to put food on the table. That’s because airlines like United use low bid contractors like PrimeFlight Aviation Services—a company with a troubling record of OSHA and wage and hour complaints which pay workers poverty wages and offer little or no benefits.

Legislation is the Ticket to Justice

Tell your New Jersey state representative to support the STAFER ACT or Safe Transportation Jobs and Fair Employment Rules Act (S3226, A4870). This bill will ensure privately subcontracted airport, train and ferry workers who work at major transportation hubs receive the same wages and benefits as government contracted unarmed security officers.

Afford to Pay their Fair Share

United and other airlines made record profits in recent years and received huge subsidies. Meanwhile, the subcontracted airport workers who helped to fuel these profits are making peanuts. It’s time to right this wrong. Join our fight.

Let’s hold airlines accountable! Sign the petition and tell your NJ State Representative to support the STAFER ACT!
